Supported by the Islands District Fight Crime Committee, Lantau District (LTDIST) has rolled out a Community Guardian Plan to reinforce communication with the community and engage stakeholders in preventing crimes.

Lantau taxis drivers are regarded as a key stakeholder. In the past they had helped police crack some crime cases. For example in November last year, two taxi drivers helped police intercepted and apprehended a total of eight illegal immigrants.

At the beginning of the Community Guardian Plan, LTDIST strengthened co-operation with Lantau taxi drivers and encouraged them to come forward to report suspicious persons or activities. As the plan progresses, LTDIST will engage more key stakeholders such as Lantau bus drivers and shop owners.

On May 14, LTDIST Commander Cho Ming-lung introduced the Community Guardian Plan at a meeting of the Islands District Fight Crime Committee. All committee members welcomed the plan and praised LTDIST for its proactive measures to prevent crimes.

At the meeting, Committee Chairman, Mr Yung Chi-ming, and Mr Cho presented appointment letters to taxi drivers who have joined the Community Guardian Plan as "Ambassadors".  With their professional ability and experience, the "Ambassadors" would play a key role in helping police protect life and property.
