After a successful duty visit to the Singapore Police Force (SPF) by members of the Force Escort Group (FEG) last year, three officers from the Special Operations Team of the SPF's Traffic Police Department came to Hong Kong last month to join seven FEG recruits in attending a five-day FEG Police Motorcycle VIP Escort Training Course.

The course, conducted by Chief Inspector Chik Ming-yam and Station Sergeant Ng Chung-king, covered presentations on the organisation, structure and roles of the FEG, motorcade escort tactics, as well as planning and carrying out motorcade escorts. This was followed by a demonstration of riding skills and road training exercises that simulated how the FEG carries out VIP escorts.

The SPF officers were shown traffic uniform and the equipment used by the FEG.  They also visited the Headquarters Command and Control Centre and Police Tactical Unit (PTU), during which Senior Inspector Cheung Yau-hung, Motor Transport Officer of PTU, introduced the Force's various types of vehicles and discussed fleet-related matters with them.

The SPF's Special Operations Team consists of 20 traffic police officers responsible for escorts for VVIP, money, arms and ammunition or funerals. Outside these tasks, they perform regular traffic enforcement duties, and their roles and functions are similar to those of the FEG. Both parties had good exchanges of experience of escort tactics.

Upon completion of the training course, Senior Staff Sergeant, Mr Irwan Bin Ariffin, thanked FEG members for arranging the training course and visits to the relevant units.
