Liaison Bureau (LB) has joined hands with the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macao and the French International School in hosting an anti-drug education programme for the third time since 2010.

Aiming at disseminating anti-drug messages and making students more conscious of the serious consequences of drug abuse, the programme consisted of a talk in the French International School and a visit to the Hei Ling Chau Addiction Treatment Centre on April 16 and June 7 respectively.

On April 16, officers from Liaison Bureau, Narcotics Bureau (NB) and Police Dog Unit visited the French International School, during which NB Senior Inspector Cheng Chun-kit shared with Form 1 to Form 3 students his knowledge of the different types of drug abuse, the trend of usage of drugs, and the law related to legal and illegal drugs in Hong Kong. At the same time, two police dogs demonstrated how to help officers crack drugs cases and many students volunteered to take part in the demonstration.

In the evening, Detective Inspector Mandy Wu of Wan Chai District Special Duties Squad visited the school to offer parents advice on how to help their children stay away from drugs, helping the parents to identify the related problems as early as possible.

On June 7, 30 students visited the facilities and vocational training in the Hei Ling Chau Addiction Treatment Centre of the Correctional Services Departments, accompanied by LB officers and Mr Jean-Christophe Marten-Perolin, Attaché of Police of the French Consulate.  At a sharing session, two young inmates spoke of how they were hooked to drugs and ended up in the addiction treatment centre.

Feedback to the programme was positive as Mr Marten-Perolin commented: "Thanks to the initiatives and active participation of the Hong Kong Police, the French Consulate-General and the Correctional Services Department, the programme was very successful."
