Fifty police volunteers from Regions and Formations pitched in for a large-scale anti-drug publicity event held at Sha Tin Racecourse on June 22. The event was jointly organised by the Narcotics Division (ND) of the Security Bureau, the Action Committee Against Narcotics (ACAN), and Radio Television Hong Kong to tie in with the United Nations International Anti-drug Day on June 26 and to rally community support for the anti-drugs cause. It also raised the curtain for this year's territory-wide campaign against youth drug abuse.

The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, officiated at the opening ceremony of the event, alongside the Secretary for Security, Mr Lai Tung-kwok, Permanent Secretary for Security, Mr Joshua Law, the chairman of ACAN, Professor Daniel Shek, and the Commissioner for Narcotics, Mrs Erika Hui.

A new TV Announcement in the Public Interest (API) was premiered in the event to remind young people not to be lured into drugs and hammer home the message that friendship or love is not associated with drugs. In addition to TV and radio APIs, there are anti-drug advertisements for upstairs bars and karaoke establishments.

Mrs Hui highly appreciated the police volunteers' contribution to this successful event.
