The "Don't Drop the Ball" programme organised by the Regional Crime Prevention Office New Territories South (NTS) Region and the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union (HKRFU) concluded with a competition for schools at King's Park on July 6. The programme, running for the fifth year, helps young people to build up self-confidence and educates them on the importance of team spirit and discipline through rugby training and competitions.
Before taking part in the competition, each of the participants pledged to stay away from drugs, triads and crimes, such as stealing and bullying. They also vowed to pass on anti-crime and anti-drug messages to their peers.
A total of 28 teams from secondary and primary schools took part in the competition. A large gathering of district councillors and community leaders attended the closing ceremony of the competition. Among those officiating at the ceremony were Mr Peter Else, Chairman of the Hong Kong Police Rugby Club, Mr Yung Yuen-chong, Chairman of the Disciplined Services Rugby Committee, Superintendent Chan Wai-ming from Crime NTS, Regional Crime Prevention Officer NTS Wong Wai-yin, Mr John Carroll, Vice-chairman of the Hong Kong Police Rugby Club, and Mr Robbie McRobbie, Head of Rugby Operations, HKRFU.
