Commissioner Tsang Wai-hung attended "Iftar", an evening meal for breaking the fast during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, at Kowloon Mosque in Tsim Sha Tsui and Islamic Centre in Wan Chai on July 17 and 18 respectively.
"Ramadan", the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is the Islamic month of fasting when Muslims refrain from eating and drinking from dawn till sunset. Fasting is intended to teach Muslims about patience, humility, and spirituality.
Mr Tsang visited Kowloon Mosque on July 17, accompanied by Kowloon West Regional Commander Cheung Kwai-kee, Yau Tsim District Commander Yu Tat-chung, Yau Tsim Deputy District Commander Chung Sze-pong, Yau Tsim Deputy District Commander (Designate) Siu Kit-hung, Tsim Sha Tsui Divisional Commander Paul Grove and Yau Tsim District Police Community Relations Officer M. M. Khan.
Other distinguished guests at "Iftar" included Secretary of Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, Consul-Generals, and dignitaries from various organisations.
The following day, Mr Tsang attended "Iftar" at the Islamic Centre in Wan Chai , accompanied by Wan Chai District Commander Lee Wing-kwong and Wan Chai District Police Community Relations Officer Maxim Kwok.
Among the over 90 distinguished guests at the event were Consul-Generals and other discipline force commissioners.
Welcoming the guests, Mr Justice A.R. Suffiad, Chairman of the Islamic Union, pointed out that the presence of Muslims and non-Muslims at the "Iftar" underscored the racial harmony in Hong Kong.
Mr Justice Suffiad and Vice-chairman Haji Saeed Uddin of the Islamic Union both thanked the Force for maintaining Hong Kong as one of the safest cities in the world, as well as forging close ties with the community.
