With a view to enhancing community engagement and expanding the existing communication platforms, the Hong Kong Police Force had initiated to study the use of web-based platforms and social media since 2011 to enhance communications with different community groups. By taking a prudent and incremental approach, the Force has selected suitable social media platforms and migrated by stages. After the successful launch of two Force social media platforms ‘HKP Mobile App’ and ‘HKP YouTube’ respectively in 2012 and 2013, the launch of Hong Kong Police Facebook (HKP Facebook) page on 5 October 2015 has marked the migration to stage III of the Force Strategy of Using Social Media for Communication with the Public.
The ‘HKP Facebook’ page would not only promote Force events and anti-crime messages, but also portray stories of police officers, through which members of the public could gain better understanding on the work of the Hong Kong Police.
