Fatal traffic accident in Yau Ma Tei
Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Yau Ma Tei early this (May 21) morning in which a 53-year-old man was killed and four persons, aged between 18 and 42, injured.
At about 3.15 am, a private car driven by a 27-year-old man was travelling along northbound Wylie Road. When reaching near Ho Man Tin Hill Road, the private car reportedly rammed onto a taxi travelling along the opposite carriageway which then crashed to the railing.
The 53-year-old male driver and an 18-year-old female passenger of the taxi were trapped inside the compartment. They were rescued by firemen attending the scene and were rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Kwong Wah Hospital respectively.
The 53-year-old man was certified dead at 4.09 am at the hospital.
The 27-year-old male driver and a 29-year-old male passenger of the private car and a 42-year-old female passer-by were also injured during the incident. They were sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for medical treatment.
The private car driver was later arrested for drink driving. He has been released on Police bail pending further enquiries.
