Marine Police seize computer goods worth over $1.8 million

Marine Police have arrested two men and seized a large quantity of computer hard disks worth over $1.8 million in an anti-smuggling operation in Sai Kung last night (October 26).

About 7.30 pm yesterday, officers of Marine Outer Waters District, Marine East Division and Small Boat Division spotted a group of people unloading goods from two light goods vehicles (LGV) onto five speedboats at Nam Wai while carrying out a joint anti-smuggling operation in Sai Kung area.

The speedboats fled away when they saw police officers but the two LGVs were intercepted and the two male drivers, aged 21 and 51, were arrested.

A total of 130 boxes of computer hard disks worth over $1.8 million were seized. The men were arrested for allegedly assisting in the export of unmanifested cargo.

The case will be handed over to the Customs and Excise Department for further investigation.
