In the first three quarters of 2024, a total of 30 pedestrians lost their lives in traffic accidents, accounting for 42% of the total fatalities. Among them, 17 were aged 65 or above, representing 57% of the pedestrian fatalities.

Given that elderly pedestrians are more likely to be involved in fatal and serious traffic accidents, the Road Safety Unit of Traffic Branch Headquarters (TBHQ) collaborated with the Tsui Wan sub-district care team in participating in a community event held at the Yue Wan Community Hall on October 17, 2024 to promote road safety to more than 200 senior citizens through lecture, publicity videos and lively Q&A session. Moreover, the TBHQ mascot Traffic Bear actively interacted with the participants through games to strengthen their understanding of road safety. At the end of the event, officers of the Road Safety Unit and members of the care team distributed souvenirs and leaflets to the elderly and took group photos with Traffic Bear.

In the coming year, Traffic Branch Headquarters will work closely with the Road Safety Council and local care teams to visit various communities so as to actively promote road safety among different groups and remind them of “Attentive, Patient, and Law-abiding", thereby protecting precious lives and reducing traffic accidents.
