Entry Requirements:
Candidates should
- have met all the requirements of general Auxiliary Police Constable including academic and language proficiency requirements and physique;
- be proficient in performing with one or more of the following musical instruments;
Western Woodwind, Brass, Percussion Instruments with Grade 5 or above Certificate from The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) or equivalent;
- be able to pass all the selection requirements, including music audition, interview and physical fitness test; and
- Marching band performance experience is preferred
Duties:
An Auxiliary Police Constable (Specialist) [Bandsmen] is mainly deployed on specialist duties including the following -
- carrying out the routine duties of the band, including loading / unloading / setting up of instruments and equipment for rehearsal / performance;
- attending all the rehearsals, performances and parades organised by the Force, the HKSAR Government and other organisations;
- conducting regular checks on their instruments and uniform to ensure that they are in working condition and to report to senior officers any damage and when repair or replacement is required;
- enhancing their musical knowledge by attending musical trainings as directed by Bandmaster of HKAPF Band; and
- maintaining the highest standards of discipline and turn-out.
(Note: Application procedures, terms of appointment, conditions of service and welfare matters should be the same of the general Auxiliary police constables. In addition, it may be required to wear uniform and work irregular hours (normally weekday evenings from 6:30pm to 10:30pm and on weekends or public holidays).
Training:
Each new recruit is required to attend a 50-hour Auxiliary (Bandsmen) Basic Training Course which consists two to three evening training sessions per week between 7:00pm and 11:00pm in the HKAPF Headquarters, No. 12 Wang Chiu Road, Kowloon Bay.
