Tai Tsz-lok, Wong Tai Sin JPC member, is the winner of the Junuary issue of the 'Triplets in Trouble'.

¡@¡@Tsz-lok, aged 15, attends Our Lady College and has been a JPC member since 1998.

¡@¡@She enjoys Economics at school and loves swimming in her spare time. Tsz-lok is also taking part in the Hong Kong Award for Young People.

¡@¡@Tsz-lok received her $600 winner's cheque from Mrs Rainbow Fan, Division Manager San Po Kong, HSBC.

¡@¡@Tsz-lok says she'll put her hard-earned money into a savings account.

Wong Tai Sin (WTS) Police officers have received a 'Green Office' Gold Award for their outstanding efforts in helping to protect the environment.

¡@¡@The measures and practices adopted by the staff to minimise waste and pollution at work are so significant that the district was the only government organisation to receive a gold award from the Environmental Campaign Committee in 2001.

¡@¡@Ian Tyzzer, WTS District Commander, was presented the award, which falls under the 2001 Hong Kong Eco-Business Awards.

¡@¡@One of the district's most outstanding initiatives is a paperless morning report.

¡@¡@Electronic data for the report is now projected onto a screen for discussion at the morning meeting instead of the previous practice where copies of the report were printed for all attending.

¡@¡@This new approach saves about 800 sheets of paper a day at all stations in the district, which includes Tsz Wan Shan and Sai Kung Divisions.

¡@¡@Other 'green' measures include the installation of timer switches, energy-saving light bulbs, water flow restrictors and oil filters in canteens.

¡@¡@Nevertheless, the district is striving for further success. It plans to establish a performance pledge to meet targets in energy and water savings, waste reduction, recycling and monitoring waste-water discharges from the canteen.

To keep the Grammar Witch happy, you have to tell her which word/words in each of the following sentences are uncountable nouns.

WATCH OUT! There are countable and uncountable nouns in some of the sentences - so be careful!

1. "Grandma is giving me a gold bracelet
¡@ for my birthday," Donna told her
¡@ friends.

2. "What was the weather like on your
¡@ holiday?" asked Jordan.

3. I love listening to music in my room.

4. "Would you like some bread served with
¡@ your pizza?" asked the waitress.

5. We need to get some petrol.

Help! A noun is a person, place or thing. An uncountable noun is a noun that we cannot count, e. g. water, steel or information. Uncountable nouns do not have a plural form.

The expression 'six of one, half a dozen of the other'
means that either option will have the same result.
(A dozen is 12, half a dozen is six, so six of one and
half a dozen of the other equals the same thing.)

Amy waved and smiled as the TV crew left the apartment.

¡@¡@"Well done! Amy," said her mum. "I think you spoke beautifully. We'll have to watch the TV news tonight!"

¡@¡@"OK," replied Amy. "I think I'll go and have a lie down now."

¡@¡@"Oh sure," her mum said. "Make sure you get plenty of rest before tonight!"

¡@¡@As Amy went into her room, she wondered what her mum meant. A surprise party, I bet, thought Amy. That would be just like Mum.

¡@¡@Amy had done two television interviews and four newspaper interviews since she and Aaron had saved the babies. She was getting quite used to all the attention.

¡@¡@"I'll be more famous than the triplets soon," laughed Amy, before setting down for a doze.

¡@¡@That evening, sure enough, her mum had arranged a surprise meal at Amy's favourite restaurant. Amy was a bit embarrassed really, as she and Aaron walked in and everyone started clapping.

¡@¡@Amy and Aaron took pride of place at the head of the table. The triplets were there, all looking very cute in their best clothes - and not one of them was crying! Amy went over and gave each of them kiss.

¡@¡@All Amy's relatives and her parents' friends were making such a fuss, so Amy was glad when she and Aaron finally got a moment to themselves.

¡@¡@"Hey, did you see us on the TV last night?" whispered Aaron. "Yes, I thought I looked awful! It was those bright lights. I don't think I want to do any more interviews,"replied Amy.

¡@¡@"I thought we looked great. Besides, I bet you're glad they didn't ask you about how you feel now the triplets are back," laughed Aaron.

¡@¡@"What do you mean?" asked Amy.

¡@¡@"Well, it'll be back to how it was before. You know, with all the noise, and the smelly nappies and you not having your own room," said Aaron.

¡@¡@"Oh no, I wouldn't want them to go now. I love them and I'm glad they're part of our family," replied Amy, wishing she had never been so selfish.

¡@¡@Amy and Aaron stopped talking as Mr Chan stood up to make an announcement.

¡@¡@"Well, as you all know, we are very proud of our two heroes. We are so glad to have our little trio back with us again. And I have some more good news - since the kidnapping, the triplets have been asked to do even more commercials. So, with the extra money, we can move to a bigger apartment, where there will be plenty of room for everyone!" said Mr Chan triumphantly.

¡@¡@Amy looked at her dad and smiled. She would have her own room again! She knew everything would be OK from now on. They would be one big happy family!
