Be in Somebody's Shoes

Patient : My sister was mad at me last night when I was listening to my favourite music. She insisted on turning it off so that she could finish her project in time.

Doctor : I see. You really should learn to be in her shoes.

Patient : You mean I should wear her shoes?

Doctor : Be in somebody’s shoes is an idiom. What I meant is that you should imagine that you are in her situation. In such case, it is hard for her to concentrate under the influence of loud music.
