In July, I went to Tung Chung with 25 JPC members to join my long-awaited event-----2 days 1 night adventure camp. Typhoon signal no. 8 just passed away on Monday. Luckily, we were blessed with beautiful weather on Thursday. We gathered in Central Police station. When I arrived there, I was very excited to see a lot of smiling faces.

The blazing afternoon sun filtered through the fluffy white clouds and bathed us with its warm light. As we walked up the trail to our camp site, we could hear the melodic birdsong and the shrill, piercing sounds of insects. I caught my breath in awe as my eyes drank in the astounding natural beauty.

The most unforgettable event was orienteering training at night. After finished dinner, we washed our dishes by ourselves. Our tutor explained the details of this training, and an orienteering competition started. I joined in a team with 6 members. “Three, two , one……go!” Hardly had our tutor finished his words when we flipped open our folded map and rushed headlong towards the first crossroads.

After locating our position with map, we dashed towards the first checkpoint in a jiff. To our surprise, we found the checkpoint flag behind the post box when we took a closer look at them. We felt a shiver of excitement down our spine, and a smile lit up on our face. Without hesitation, we punched a mark onto our record sheet with the stamp at the checkpoint and set off for other checkpoint flag.

After an hour, we finally completed our task and returned to the gathering point. We was puffing and panting when we collapsed in a heap on the beach. Hurray our team had won. Though I experienced some obstacles during the competition, it was still a rewarding experience as I have become more independent. I learned that winning isn’t an important thing but gaining support and encouragement form teammates established a more valuable experience. I am enjoying the process and gaining experience are more essential things. I felt deeply in my heart about the team spirit of JPC. Indeed, this adventure camp was my most delightful and memorable event in summer.
