意外在三個月前發生

這是錯誤使用被動式的常見例子。

請記着因為 Occur 是「不及物動詞」 Intransitive Verb，所以不接賓語，也不能使用被動式。其他錯誤例子：

這一事件是甚麼時候發生的？

不是When was the incident occurred?

而是When did the incident occur?

剛發生了出乎意料的事

不是Something unexpected has just been occurred

而是Something unexpected has happened

其他正確的例子：

Many accidents occur at home

許多意外在家裡發生

She said that her headaches occurred at nights only

她說頭痛只在夜裡出現

意思跟 Occur 一樣的 Happen 也是只用「主動式」。例子：

The accident happened while he was at work

意外是在他工作時發生的

Funny things happened at home today

今天，家裡發生了有趣的事

容易產生類似錯誤的其他詞語還有 Seem、Result from/in、Appear/Disappear、 Belong、 Depend和Arrive 等。它們都是只有「主動式」，沒有「被動式」。 總之，在它們前面加上 「Be 動詞」是錯的。
