With a view to enhancing the personal and professional qualities of Junior Police Officers (JPOs), Kowloon East (KE) Region ran a series of workshops between July and September for a total of over 300 JPOs aspiring to advance to the ranks of Sergeant and Inspector.
In the workshops on promotion to Sergeant, four middle-level managers from different professional fields gave talks on the Public Order Events, Strategic Directions, Force's Challenges and Interview Skills, Counter-Terrorism and Integrity Management. Having availed themselves of the opportunities to discuss various matters and raise questions, the JPOs said they were in a better position to plan for their career development.
In the workshops on promotion to Inspector, five Force-entry supervisory officers at the ranks from Probationary Inspector to Superintendent spoke of their promotion paths and advised the audience on how to equip themselves for the core competencies required of an Inspector. Furthermore, five guest speakers at the ranks of Chief Inspector to Chief Superintendent shared their experiences of attending interviews, as well as their leadership and management skills.
Simulation exercises were also conducted in the workshops, covering impromptu talks, group discussion, management matters and final interview.
One of the participants, Police Constable Edward Wong, said the workshop enhanced his confidence and competency of attending promotion interviews.
