After a three-month trial run in New Territories North Region, the Force Mobile Breath Test Centre (MBTC) has been deployed to Traffic Hong Kong Island to strengthen daily anti-drink driving enforcement. On April 17, the eve of the long Easter holidays, T HKI Chief Inspector (CIP) Lee Man-yiu gave a press briefing on the MBTC at the Lan Kwai Fong bar area and introduced as well as demonstrated the operating procedures of the latest model of Breathalyzer. He also reiterated the Force's determination to combat drink driving and drug driving.
CIP Lee pointed out that T HKI was also concerned about the increasing malpractices by taxi drivers and had mounted undercover operations to tackle the problems of "overcharging", "refusing hire", and "touting". T HKI would also step up enforcement action against drivers with poor driving manners and deploy police vehicles equipped with an in-car video recording system for enforcement action on highways.
After the press briefing, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol (Hong Kong and Islands) Leung Ka-keung and T HKI Road Safety Officer, Inspector Lee Yuen-ting, led officers and road safety patrol members to distribute anti-drink and drug driving flyers to bar customers in Lan Kwai Fong. Members of the public were also invited to try on the Breathalyzer to find out the amount of the alcohol they had consumed.
