Yuen Long District (YLDIST) is running "Strategy for Joining the Police" Project and "Project HIMALAYA" as mentorship programmes to assist local Form 6 graduates and Non-ethnic Chinese young people respectively in equipping themselves for joining the Force.

The "Strategy for Joining the Police" Project is conducted in two classes and comprises four sessions, namely a recruitment talk, a police station visit, experience sharing with Police volunteers and a Police College visit. A total of 80 local young people have joined the project as mentees.

After joining the two projects, 12 "Strategy for Joining the Police" mentees and one "Project HIMALAYA" mentee made up their mind to apply for the post of Recruit Police Constable (RPC). In view of this, YLDIST Police Community Relations Office provided supplementary classes to help them get better prepared for police recruitment. As a result, eight mentees passed the RPC Final Interview.

On April 12, six mentees took part in a passing-out parade at Police College after completing the 27-week RPC Foundation Training. On hand to congratulate them and share their joy were YLDIST Deputy District Commander Kerry Carew, Yuen Long Fight Crime Committee members and YLDIST JPC Honorary Presidents.

Mr Carew praised the mentees for overcoming all hurdles for their goal of joining the Force, and wished them all the best for their careers.
