The Physical Fitness and Health Management (PHM) Carnival 2014 took place at Police Sports and Recreation Club on May 25, drawing over 4 700 regular and auxiliary officers, civilian officers and their families.

Organised by Personnel Services and Staff Relations (PS&SR) Branch in conjunction with Police sports and arts clubs, the carnival is one of the major annual events of the Force. With "Care for your health. Exercise makes you strong." as the theme of this year's PHM, PS&SR Branch hopes Force members, through participation in sports and arts activities, would form a habit of exercising regularly and pay more attention to their physical health and psychological well-being so that they can cope with their heavy workloads.

A great variety of programmes were laid on to cater for the participants' different tastes, including performances and fun-filled game booths set up by 50 Police sports and arts clubs.  They also tried their best to win in sports competitions, Indoor Rowing Competition and Basketball Shooting Competition. The atmosphere of sports events was brought to a climax by the cheers from supporters of the competing teams.

Pok Oi Hospital and Hong Kong Chiropractic College Foundation supported the carnival by providing free health consultations and chiropractic checks for the participants.  Besides the diverse activities in physical health, the carnival also offered game booths in positive mental health and an exhibition of the award-winning entries to the Prudent Financial Management Writing Competition.

Commissioner Tsang Wai-hung, Senior Directorate Group members, and many Formation Commanders were on hand to share the fun with the participants and attended a presentation ceremony, where winners received prizes for sports competitions and the Fitness Training Rooms Management Excellence Award. Mr Tsang presented the Force Colours Award for Sports and Arts to the winners. A total of 26 officers were presented with the Force Colours Award for Sports while 11 officers with the Award for Arts in recognition of their achievements. New Territories North Regional Headquarters again clinched the Purdon Shield for overall outstanding achievement in sports.
