To beef up frontline officers' policing knowledge, New Territories South (NTS) Region held three thematic sharing sessions on policing of public events for over 120 officers from different units on June 12.
Speaking at the opening of the session, NTS Deputy Regional Commander Lui Hon-kwok stressed, "With the growing challenges of policing public events, it is hoped that officers would benefit from the valuable experiences of the guest speakers."
The first speaker, Central District Assistant Commander (Operations) Lam Hung-chuen illustrated the policing and communication skills of handling ad-hoc public events. After this presentation, Chief Inspector Stephen Liauw from Police Public Engagement Office (PPEO) and PPEO Senior Inspector Dorothy Nieh introduced the duties of PPEO and the engagement work of public events at Police Headquarters level.
Lastly, Chief Inspector Simon Kwan from Regional Crime Unit Hong Kong Island spoke on the experience and challenges of gathering evidence and taking out public event prosecution.
