Marine South Division (MSDIV) hosted a seminar for 37 coxswains and vessel masters from six maritime companies at Marine Port District Headquarters on June 5 in a bid to drive home maritime safety and rules.

At the seminar, Marine Port District Commander Lee Kiu-ki stressed the importance of maritime safety and safe navigation in avoiding accidents. He undertook to work closely with the maritime sector for the goal of “Zero Accident at Sea”.

Following Mr Lee’s speech, MSDIV officers discussed with the participants the maritime rules and the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea 1972, and introduced the equipment for sea safety. The officers also reminded the participants to periodically check the expiry dates of fire extinguishers and the conditions of life jackets, which should be placed in conspicuous places.

In addition, the MSDIV officers gave a briefing on the speed restrict zones within Marine South waters and the consequences of violating the laws. The accredited laser gun used for detecting speeding vessels was also on display at the seminar.

For the audience, the seminar acquainted them with up-to-date maritime rules and Marine Region’s work in maritime safety.  The seminar also cemented the relationship between Marine Region and the maritime sector in the interest of coxswain’s awareness of maritime safety.
