An elderly man, accompanied by his family, called at Kowloon East (KE) Region on September 12 and presented a banner to KE Superintendent (Operations) Alan Crowther, KE Regional Missing Persons Unit (KE RMPU) and the Tsim Bei Tsui Patrol Sub-Unit of Tin Shui Wai Division for mounting a large-scale operation to locate the elder after he was reported missing.
In mid-August, the elder's wife reported to the police that she could not contact her husband after he left home for hiking. KE RMPU immediately classified the report as a "Missing Person at Risk" case and swung into action. Led by SP Crowther, officers, assisted by Civil Aid Service and Government Flying Service, mounted a large-scale air, sea and land search operation for six days. Eventually a villager found the elder in the vicinity of Lung Kwu Tan in Tuen Mun.
Delighted with the appreciation of the elder and his family, KE Senior Superintendent (Operations) Stephen Handley vowed to continue "to serve with pride and care".
