The Regional Crime Prevention Office of Kowloon East (RCPO KE) hosted a "Fight Crime Hand-in-Hand" seminar on September 18 for federations of parent-teacher associations (PTA), in a bid to offer a platform for exchanging views and thrashing out measures to combat juvenile delinquency.
The chairmen and core members of the PTAs in Kwun Tong, Wong Tai Sin and Sai Kung were present at the seminar, alongside a Chief Inspector from the Regional Anti-triad Unit (RATU) KE, officers-in-charge of District Anti-triad Squads, and school liaison officers from Police Community Relations Offices.
Welcoming the audience, Superintendent (Crime) Yuen Chi-kin hoped the seminar would offer a platform for enhancing the communication among the PTAs in KE Region and the partnership with the police. He also hoped teenagers and parents would be more aware of crime so that the former would steer clear of delinquency.
At the meeting, KE Regional Crime Prevention Officer, Chief Inspector (CIP) Ng Shu-hung, and RATU KE CIP Daniel Dungey briefed the audience on the crimes involving teenagers and the modus operandi of the crimes. They also offered advice on crime prevention.
The audience shared the view and that stringent enforcement and strengthening of community relations and family education were vital for tackling juvenile delinquency. Police can disseminate anti-crime messages to schools and the community with short videos. In this way, students would get a better idea of crime prevention and bring fight crime messages home.
The chairman of the Federation of Parent-Teacher Associations of Kwun Tong, Mr Kai Ping-chung, provided the police with an electronic platform for showing anti-crime publicity short videos. The parents of all the PTAs will have access to the viewing.
