At the Senior Police Call (SPC) "Smart E-Power" Inauguration Ceremony cum "Anti-Deception Workshop" on September 5, Tuen Mun District (TMDIST) Commander Iain McNicol and the Chairman of Tuen Mun District Fight Crime Committee, Mr Chow Kam-cheung, presented appointment certificates to more than 50 senior citizens from Tuen Mun Area Committees and the New Territories West Elder Academies Cluster before a large gathering of guests, including professors from Lingnan University.

To give the new members a better idea of the objectives of "Smart E-Power", the ceremony began with a review of the "Smart E-Power" activities in the past, followed by an anti-crime Kung Fu demonstration. At the same time, two videos featuring "Smart E-Power" members were shown to drive home messages on crime prevention. The ceremony concluded with the singing of a song with the lyrics written by a "Smart E-Power" member.

TMDIST and Lingnan University jointly produced moon-cakes carrying anti-crime messages for "Smart E-Power" members as a token of appreciation of their efforts to promote anti-crime activities.

Lantau District (LTDIST) briefed over 80 SPC members on September 8 on the events it will organise with other organisations and government departments in the coming year, including Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD), North Lantau Hospital and Tung Chung Safe & Health City. Some of the events will aim at disseminating anti-crime and road safety messages to the villagers on Lantau.

At the briefing session, District Commander Pat Laidler called on the elderly to make optimal use of their life experiences to help police fight crime. The Vice-chairman of Islands District Council and a member of Islands District Fight Crime Committee, Ms Chau Chuen-heung, pledged full support for SPC activities in
LTDIST.

The first event was a basic hiking course provided by AFCD on September 24. Equipped with the relevant knowledge, SPC members joined their junior counterparts after the course in visiting the villagers and distributing anti-crime flyers.

 YLDIST

Yuen Long District (YLDIST) joined forces with Yuen Long District Fight Crime Committee and Caritas Yuen Long in paying visits to the elders living in solitude in Tin Shui Wai on September 22. In another activity on September 30, SPC members, accompanied by volunteers of YLDIST, participated in the annual sports day of Pok Oi Hospital. Apart from distributing crime prevention souvenirs to elders, YLDIST also set up booths to disseminate messages on prevention of telephone scam through interactive games.
