Wan Chai District (WCHDIST) hosted two workshops for bar operators and retail shop representatives on August 20 and 28 respectively in a bid to combat late night violence, shop theft and miscellaneous theft.

The first workshop attracted more than 20 liquor licensees and bar managers when Assistant District Commander (Crime) Wan Siu-hung introduced the situation of late night violence in WCHDIST and stressed the importance of enhancing communication, crime prevention and liaison. Licensing Office Sub-unit Commander Kwan Tat-hoi also explained the relevant conditions for application for, and renewal of, liquor licence.

More than 60 representatives from retail shops attended the second workshop. In an opening speech, Chief Inspector (Crime) Li Chi-kin outlined the crime trend and culprits' modus operandi. After the speech, guests from a credit card company, Commercial Crime Bureau and Hong Kong Island Regional Crime Prevention Office gave presentations on counterfeit credit cards, counterfeit banknotes and crime prevention strategies. Upon conclusion of both workshops, the audiences thanked WCHDIST for briefing them on the crime trend and its crime prevention strategies.
