In a bid to deter drink driving and drug driving during the Christmas and New Year holidays, the Road Safety Team of Traffic Hong Kong Island (T HKI), Road Safety Council and Road Safety Patrol (Hong Kong & Islands) jointly hosted the "2014 Anti-3'D' Winter Kick-off Ceremony" at Southorn Playground in Wan Chai on December 23 last year. The organisers also reminded motorists and pedestrians to pay more attention whilst using roads.
Declaring the ceremony open were T HKI Senior Superintendent Chu Hon-keung, Chairman of the Road Safety Campaign Committee, Dr Cheng Kam-chung, Traffic Headquarters Acting Superintendent Li Po-hung, Deputy Commissioner, Operations of Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol, Dr Liu Kai-ming, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol (Hong Kong & Islands), Mr Leung Ka-keung, Chairlady of Development, Planning & Transport Committee, Wan Chai District Council, Ms Lee Kwun-yee, and General Secretary of the Methodist Centre, Mr Lo Kam-wah.
The campaign attracted a large turnout from the community to enjoy a programme of performances, such as voice mutation, magic and karate shows, while Police dogs went through their paces in demonstrations. The highlight came when the officiating guests hung charm cards on a Christmas tree to signify the importance of safe driving and road safety.
Shortly after the ceremony, the officiating guests proceeded to the bars and restaurants on Lockhart Road and distributed fliers and souvenirs to customers while Police officers reminded them the serious consequences of drink driving and drug driving. During the visits, some customers volunteered for a random breath test to show their support for the police publicity.
On December 30, members of the Road Safety Team and Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol also visited the bars and restaurants at Lan Kwai Fong and handed out fliers and souvenirs to customers.
