With a tremendous effort and team spirit, Probationary Inspector (PI) 578-580 and Recruit Police Constable (RPC) Squad Q-W captured the Intake Cup on the Foundation Training Centre (FTC) Sports Day 2014 at Aberdeen Sports Ground on December 6.
The Sports Day started with an opening address by Superintendent Paul Hobson of the Basic Competencies Training Division, followed by a solemn declaration by representatives of PI squads and RPC squads. Then over 500 trainees swung into action either as contestants or cheerleaders.
The day offered opportunities in different fields for the trainees to put their talents to the test in track events: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 3 000m (for females only) and 5 000m (for males only) and in field events: Long Jump, High Jump, Short Put, Discus, and Javelin. Relay events of 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m for both male and female provided some highlights for the day.
At the end of the day, PI Ho Tai-yin and PI Chan Han-ming took the titles of the Individual Overall Champion (PI Trainee) for males and females respectively. For RPCs, the titles went to RPC Wong Man-chun and RPC Lai Wing-sze. The W Squad won the Squad Cup for males, while the T Squad took the Squad Cup for females.The M Squad clinched the Best Cheerleading Trophy for their outstanding performance and creativity.
In his closing remarks, FTC Senior Superintendent Graham Mitchelmore said: "It's a good day not only because everyone takes part actively, but also we're able to identify some sports talents. Most importantly, we take the opportunity to show our great team spirit throughout the day".
