The Critical Infrastructure Security Coordination Centre (CISCC) hosted two security seminars, entitled "In Partnership, We Enhance Critical Infrastructure Protection", at Police Headquarters on January 6 and 15 respectively for strengthening liaison with critical infrastructure (CI) operators and enhancing collaboration in CI protection. The two seminars attracted more than 400 participants representing over 100 entities from both public and private sectors.
In the opening speech, Senior Superintendent Wong Hon-kwan of CISCC pointed out that the global security threat remained heightened and CI facilities were one of the attractive targets for terrorist attacks. Destruction of CI would cause serious impacts on the economy and public safety apart from having a debilitating effect on the security and stability of the inflicted area. He emphasised that close liaison and collaboration amongst all concerned stakeholders was paramount to ensuring the security of CI facilities. He also encouraged the participants to have contingency and resilience plans in place to mitigate the risk of terrorist threat.
The seminar kicked off with CISCC's presentation to update participants on the current global terrorist trend and some recent attacks targeting CI facilities. Various Force specialist units then shared their expertise in various fields with the participants, such as blasts impacts and guidelines on handling of suspect articles by Explosive Ordnance Disposal Bureau, defensive search during heightened threat by Key Points & Search Division, counter-terrorist patrols at CI by Counter Terrorism Response Unit, cyber security by Cyber Security Centre, and the latest technology in crime prevention by Crime Prevention Bureau.
The seminar drew lively discussions and positive feedbacks from participants and speakers. The participants expressed that this kind of event would not only help in promoting CI protection but also keeping them abreast of the latest developments in the fields.
