CP signs Letter of Intent with Netherlands Police

Commissioner Tsang Wai-hung signed a Letter of Intent on combating international crime with the Commissioner of the National Police of the Netherlands, Mr Gerard Bouman, on January 16. This is the first agreement signed between the Force and the National Police of the Netherlands after the latter consolidated into a single national police force in January 2013.

The Letter of Intent covers various areas of policing and marks an important milestone in strengthening the co-operation and partnership between the two police forces.

"Looking ahead, I am confident that, by signing this Letter of Intent, the collaboration between our two organisations will help ensure that we operate at the cutting edge of policing. Working together, we place ourselves in a much more advantageous position in meeting new challenges", Mr Tsang said at the signing ceremony.

In response, Commissioner Bouman pointed out that Hong Kong has all along been a strategic partner of the Netherlands Police. In recognition of the globalisation of crimes, including terrorism, drugs, money laundering and cyber crime, the Netherlands Police have committed itself to the ever-rising need for closer international police co-operation.

Commissioner Bouman and his delegation also visited Police College and Marine Region between January 15 and 17. The visit and signing of the Letter of Intent have fortified the foundation for co-operation between the two organisations and paved the way for a closer working relationship.
