With the theme "Excellence in Policing", Police College has launched the third Force Research Award Scheme (FRAS). All major formations, formations and Force members, including regular, auxiliary and civilian officers, are welcome to participate. Participants may consider choosing research areas related to the Force's Strategic Directions and the Strategic Action Plan 2014-2016, and Commissioner's Operational Priorities. Any other policing issues that might improve Force policy or performance are welcome.
Police College launched the FRAS in 2008 and 2010 for promoting practical policing research. Capitalising on the success of the first and second FRAS and in a bid to sustain the Force research capability, Police College has rolled out the third FRAS for encouraging and recognising the excellent research efforts by formations and individual officers.
There are a total of eight categories of awards this year. As a token of appreciation, certificates will be presented to the award winners and individual Personnel Information Communal System (PICS) entries made. Award-winning papers will also be published as a journal.
To ensure fairness and impartiality, all entries will be blind-reviewed by an Adjudication Panel comprising Honorary College Advisors and retired senior police officers. The panel will also recommend quality research papers to compete for the Best Presentation Award at the Award Presentation Ceremony. Thus, participants will have an opportunity to present their research findings to the Adjudication Panel.
Interested officers or groups should submit their papers to the FRAS Adjudication Sub-working Group on or before March 31.
