The Consul General of Nepal, Mr Mahesh Dahal, District Commander Yau Tsim District (YTDIST) Kwok Pak-chung, and Senior Superintendent (SSP) Traffic Kowloon West Chan Kwok-kee presented prizes to winners of the 13th Hong Kong Nepalese Open Taekwondo Championship on March 29.
 
The competition attracted about 600 participants of Nepalese and other Non-ethnic Chinese origins as well as members of the Hong Kong Police Taekwondo Club.
 
SSP Chan, holder of international instructor and referee qualifications, was one of the head judges of the event. He also took the opportunity to discuss with the senior instructors of the Hong Kong Nepalese Taekwondo Association how to inculcate discipline, courtesy, integrity, perseverance and self control among young people through Taekwondo and drive home messages of crime prevention and road safety to them.
 
Mr Dahal said, "Taekwondo is one of the popular games in Nepal and among the Nepalese youths in Hong Kong. Taekwondo is one of the sports that not only improves physical and mental health, but also enhances discipline, dedication and harmony."
 
The Grand Master of the Hong Kong Nepalese Taekwondo Association, Mr Tulsi Gurung, thanked the Force and the Hong Kong Police Taekwondo Club for supporting the Taekwondo Championship.
 
In response, Mr Kwok said, "YTDIST has a big Nepalese community and I'm looking forward to further strengthening the mutual trust and support of the community."
