The 12th Police Mentorship Programme (PMP) was kicked off at Police Headquarters on April 27 with Director of Personnel and Training Chau Kwok-leung, Assistant Commissioner (Personnel) Lau Chi-wai, Director of Police College Paul Lau, who is the PMP Head Mentor, and guests from the ten local universities officiating at an inauguration ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Chau attributed the success of the PMP to the continuous support of the participating universities and mentors. He pointed out that 217 PMP mentees had joined the Force as a Probationary Inspector (PI) after graduation, showing that one in four mentees was successful in PI application.

Earlier this year, Recruitment Division, working in partnership with mentors, conducted interviews at various universities to select the most suitable PMP mentees.  Upon conclusion of the selection, a total of 207 undergraduates were picked as mentees for PMP 2015/16. They are studying full-time degree courses in City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong Shue Yan University, Lingnan University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Institute of Education, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, The Open University of Hong Kong and The University of Hong Kong.

PMP police mentors share their police knowledge and experiences with the mentees from their alma maters, giving them a better idea of the natures and challenges of police work.

This year, the PMP has a cadre of 101 mentors who have diverse police backgrounds, including those related to operations and crime. Their guidance would inspire the mentees to serve society by joining the Force.

The PMP mentees will also have the opportunities to visit different frontline police units, and join summer job attachment programmes in police formations and the activities organised by Recruitment Division.
