The Force Working Group on Non-ethnic Chinese endorsed on June 9 extension of "Project TRANSLINK" to the report rooms in Kowloon City, Yuen Long, Pat Heung, Tuen Mun, Kwai Chung, Kwun Tong and Chai Wan for providing interpretation services for more Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) residents.
In November 2014, Kowloon West Region started trying out "Project TRANSLINK" in the report rooms in Yau Ma Tei, Tsim Sha Tsui and Sham Shui Po to provide interpretation services in seven common NEC languages for NEC residents calling at the report rooms. During the past six months, the project ran smoothly, providing interpretation services for over 30 cases.
Upon the completion of the telephone system modification and on-site testing by Information Systems Wing and briefings for officers by the service provider, Centre for Harmony and Enhancement of Ethnic Minority Residents, "Project TRANSLINK" officially started operating in the additional seven report rooms on June 21.
The project will be reviewed regularly to explore the feasibility of further extension to other police districts.
