Wan Chai District (WCHDIST) is evaluating the effectiveness of its six-month pilot "Noble Bar Scheme (NBS)" with the help of two summer interns.

With the rising concerns about the new bar area on the south of Queen's Road East, WCHDIST, together with other government departments, has launched NBS since March, aiming to enhance the quality of the environment.

As the six-month pilot project was drawing to a close, WCHDIST recruited two summer interns via the Post-Secondary Summer Internship Programme for  the period from July to August. The summer interns, Suki Ng and Jenny Yu, have gained an insight into the various aspects of police work and appreciated police's efforts to enhance community relations. Their main goal is to critically evaluate the effectiveness and sustainability of the NBS, using various social research methodologies, including focus-group interviews and on-site surveys.

Working alongside the NBS Liaison Team, the interns have gained first-hand information of the benefits of the NBS, and provided recommendations for consideration by WCHDIST.

Since establishment of the NBS, the number of noise complaint has largely dropped. The NBS team has paid 65 goodwill visits to bar operators and received about 40 enquiries on the NBS hotline and by e-mail. The video clip of the Police Magazine TV programme introducing the NBS has been uploaded to the HKP YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDOVZeb7fyY
