The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, and the Permanent Secretary for Security, Mr Joshua Law, accompanied by Commissioner Lo Wai-chung, visited the Junior Police Call (JPC) Fight Crime Summer Camp at Wu Kwai Sha Youth Village on August 12. About 1 800 JPC members took part in the summer camp from August 11 to 14.
The theme of the summer camp was "Be a Leader Fight Crime Together". At a launching ceremony, the officiating guests urged the JPC members to help the police combat crime and promote anti-drug messages.
Mr Law said that 2015 marked the 41st anniversary of the JPC. By August 12, the JPC Scheme has more than 200 000 members, with the number of Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) members setting a record of more than 3 000.
Pointing out that the efforts of JPC members have contributed to the drop in the numbers of juveniles and young persons arrested for criminal offences in the past few years, Mr Law encouraged the members to continue to help the police disseminate fight crime messages.
After the ceremony, the officiating guests toured the camp and visited the crime prevention booths set up by the JPC members from 20 police districts. In a Fight Crime Booth Design Competition, Yau Tsim District, Tsuen Wan District and Western District were selected as winner, first and second runners-up respectively. Prizes for a fight crime slogans competition were also presented at the ceremony, with Wong Tai Sin District, Kwai Tsing District and Sha Tin District JPC members being the winner, first and second runners-up respectively.
The annual summer camp aims to enhance JPC members' awareness of crimes and drug abuse and to promote positive values through various activities. To engage members in a new life-planning course, a mini career expo was held in the summer camp, introducing seven trades for JPC members to identify their interest and plan for their career developments.
