Commissioner Lo Wai-chung led a five-member group, comprising Regional Commander Kowloon West Chung Siu-yeung, Regional Commander Hong Kong Island Tang Ping-keung and Senior Superintendent Liaison Bureau Chan Man-tak, to attend the 84th INTERPOL General Assembly (GA) in Kigali, Rwanda, from November 2 to 5. Officers from the Hong Kong and Macao Police were attending the event as members of a 24-member Chinese delegation headed by Director-General of the International Co-operation Bureau in the Ministry of Public Security, Mr Liao Jinrong.
The theme of the GA was "Policing Global Threats in a Dynamic Environment". At the meeting, the delegates discussed and endorsed a series of measures for strengthening INTERPOL's organisation in order to serve members better and forge partnership. The INTERPOL Secretary-General, Mr Jürgen Stock, also introduced "INTERPOL 2020" - a reform agenda for INTERPOL's development with the aim of enhancing resources management and organisation efficacy.
Mr Lo also took the opportunity to meet Mr Stock and his secretariat's staff for strengthening co-operation with INTERPOL, especially with the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation (IGCI) in Singapore. Officially inaugurated in April, the IGCI is a new INTERPOL Wing in Asia and South Pacific, complementing the General Secretariat in Lyon, France, in operational support, capacity building and training, and specialising in cyber crime investigation.
Mr Stock expressed his appreciation and gratitude to Mr Lo for the Force's efforts and endeavours to support INTERPOL and combat cross-jurisdictional crime.
