The co-operation between the Force and the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine (HKAM) reached a new milestone on September 25 when both parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to formalise and further strengthen partnership in "Disaster and Crisis Management" in respect of training, research and learning technology development.
After Director of Police College Paul Lau had signed the MOU, Dr Donald Li, the President of HKAM, presented an invitation letter and a research document to Assistant Commissioner (Operations) Cheung Tak-keung because the Force has agreed to be one of the supporting organisations for a comprehensive research programme, "Scoping Study on Disaster Preparedness and Resources in Hong Kong" for the period between 2015 and 2019. The Force had earlier helped researchers of the project interview relevant staff and disseminated online survey questionnaires to frontline police officers.
The HKAM is renowned for its Innovative Learning Centre for Medicine and Disaster Preparedness and Response Institute (DPRI), both provide simulation training and disaster management to train the first responders of multi-disciplinary emergency agencies, including Fire Services Department, Police and medical practitioners. The DPRI has also developed the first Disaster Information Database covering disaster health related information of Hong Kong and Asia Pacific region.
