The "Senior Police Call (SPC) Fight Crime Vigour Truck" launching ceremony was held at the Sau Mau Ping Road Safety Town on November 24. The truck visited 24 locations to promote road safety from late November to early December, and will also tour around other places in the following four months to promote anti-crime messages to the public.
Officiating at the launching ceremony, Assistant Commissioner (Support) Lam Man-wing pointed out that there were 2 487 traffic accidents with casualties and fatalities involving senior citizens in the period from January to September this year, a four per cent increase compared with 2 380 in the same period last year. The number of traffic accidents involving senior citizens also accounted for 21 per cent of the total number of traffic accidents. He hoped that, with the launch of the "SPC Fight Crime Vigour Truck", the elderly would become more mindful of road safety.
SPC members distributed road safety fliers at the 24 stopping points to remind members of the public, in particular the elderly, to comply with road traffic regulations. The truck is complete with computer games and "information stations" from which elders can get a better understanding of different fight crime and road safety themes.
The next theme for "Fight Crime Vigour Truck" will be crime prevention in winter, to be carried out later this month.
