Commissioner Lo Wai-chung hosted a reception for the Consular Corps in Hong Kong at the Ceremonial Area of Police Headquarters on the evening of March 4 as part of the Force's continuing effort to strengthen the ties with various sectors of the community.
With the background of light music played by the Police Silver Band, the Commissioner and Senior Directorate Group officers welcomed more than 100 diplomats from nearly 60 countries and officially recognised bodies, as well as other honorable guests, including Secretary for Security, Mr Lai Tung-kwok, and officials from other government departments. Their presence underscored the close connection that the Force has established with the foreign missions in Hong Kong.
Mr Lo extended a warm welcome to the guests and expressed sincere thanks to the Consular Corps for their continuous support and co-operation over the years. He reiterated that the crime situation in Hong Kong remained stable and crime figures are the lowest since 1979, reaffirming that the Force has the ability, confidence and determination to protect life and property and uphold the rule of law.
Mr Cupertino Gourgel, Consul General of the Republic of Angola, in the capacity of Doyen of the Consular Corps, expressed gratitude and appreciation for the Force's support and looked forward to strengthening co-operation.
The reception was an excellent opportunity for the Force and other government officials to meet, and exchange ideas with, the diplomatic missions in Hong Kong.
