The Annual Gathering of the Hong Kong Police Volunteer Services Corps (HKPVSC) for 2016 was held at the Police Sports and Recreation Club (PSRC) on October 22, with the Convenor of HKPVSC, Chief Superintendent Chan Joon-sun, presiding over the opening ceremony. Commissioner Lo Wai-chung, Deputy Commissioner (Management) Chau Kwok-leung and Director of Personnel and Training Chiu Wai-yin were invited to present the 2015 Award for Volunteer Service (Group), Award for Volunteer Service (Individual), Award for Volunteer Service (Family) and Long Service Award. More than 100 police volunteers and over 10 representatives from various charitable and voluntary agencies attended the event to show their support to HKPVSC.


Mr Lo thanked the police volunteers for helping people in need, and encouraged Force members and their families to continue supporting volunteer services. He praised the police volunteers for providing a variety of voluntary services, including the Project Animate in Kwun Tong District to promote animal protection and prevention of juvenile crime, supportive services provided for Hong Kong Marathon, and crowd control for UCI Track Cycling World Cup - Hong Kong.


Over 30 police volunteer teams and thousands of police volunteers regularly participate in voluntary work. In 2015, HKPVSC members devoted a total of 112,114 hours to volunteer work. With this excellent record, the HKPVSC was presented with the Gold Award for Volunteer Service by the Social Welfare Department. The police volunteer teams also captured 27 gold, two silver and five bronze awards in the group and family categories of volunteer service awarded by the department. In addition, 38 police volunteers were presented with the Long Service Award.


At the annual gathering, Chairman of the Dog Lovers' Group of the Hong Kong Kennel Club Mrs Imelda Lui, Head of Nursing at the Accident and Emergency Department of Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital Mr Wu Yip-fai, and representative of Wai Ji Christian Service Mr Chan Kam-fai, introduced their backgrounds and visions, and shared with the volunteers the importance of voluntary work.
