Wanchai District (WCHDIST) extended the Noble Bar Scheme in May from the bar area along Queen's Road East to the neighbouring bar areas in light of the positive feedback of local residents and bar operators to the scheme. The scheme was initiated in 2015 in an attempt to neutralise nuisances and promote responsible drinking and responsible liquor selling in the neighbourhood.
A workshop on the Noble Bar Scheme 2017 was held at Wan Chai Police Station on May 16 for owners and licensees of liquor premises in the project area. Assistant Divisional Commander (Operations) of Wan Chai Division (WCHDIV) Dorothy Nieh joined the District Anti-Triad Squad of WCHDIST and the Licensing Office Sub-Unit and Task Force Sub-Unit of WCHDIV to talk about the crime trend in local bar areas, the impact of neighbourhood bars and the procedures and conditions for issuing a liquor licence with a view to arousing the crime alertness and social responsibility of the attendees.
The kick-off ceremony of the Noble Bar Scheme 2017 was staged at Kwong Ming Street Children's Playground on May 26, with Commander of WCHDIST Kan Kai-yan, Deputy Commander of WCHDIST Tse Ming-yeung and Divisional Commander of WCHDIV Tse Tsui-yan leading other WCHDIST officers to attend the event. Ms Tse Tsui-yan introduced the scheme to District Councillors and other representatives from local bars and restaurants at the ceremony, and appealed for the support of local stakeholders to maintain a safe bar area.
