In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan inspected Hong Kong from June 29 to July 1. The Force went all out and deployed multiple units for a counter terrorism security operation in a bid to ensure President Xi's visit could be conducted in a safe, orderly and secure manner.
During President Xi's visit to a number of places in the city, the Force implemented relevant measures that led to road closure, and traffic and pedestrian access diversions.
On the other hand, Chief Executive Mrs Carrie Lam, principal officials and dignitaries attended a flag-raising ceremony at the Golden Bauhinia Square in Wan Chai on July 1 to mark the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland. Police officers made the necessary preparations and maintained order in various locations.
In the evening of July 1, about 260 000 people stayed on both sides of the Victoria Harbour to watch the spectacular fireworks display and the community got into festive mood. The Force implemented crowd safety management measures and special traffic arrangements to facilitate members of the public to watch the fireworks display.
