Chief Superintendent of the Complaints and Internal Investigations Branch Cheung Kin-kwong presented appreciation letters and certificates on January 19 to some frontline officers selected from "No Fault / False" complaint cases and through Project Lighthouse II.
Among complaints lodged by members of the public against officers, the Complaints Against Police Office (CAPO) reviewed 249 cases of which the allegations were classified as "No Fault" or "False" and the investigation results were endorsed by the Independent Police Complaints Council from May to November, 2017. They selected 38 of these cases in which 62 officers had indeed performed impartially and professionally for commendation with a view to strengthening the confidence of frontline officers in performing daily duties.
In addition, the CAPO continued with Project Lighthouse II and identified commendable performance demonstrated by 23 frontline officers whilst handling confrontational situations and helping members of the public and their cases were captured on videos or photographs for uploading on social media in the fourth quarter of 2017.
Sergeant Fong Cho-yiu, who was one of the awardees selected from "No Fault" cases, shared that frontline officers should maintain professionalism and offer appropriate assistance to the public at all time in order to be unbeatable against malicious complaints. On the other hand, Sergeant Chan Ka-yeung who was honoured under Project Lighthouse II said that when handling persons who behaved in a provocative or violent manner, officers need to control one's emotions to make sound judgement so as to avoid escalation of violence and make successful arrest at scene.
