The Psychological Services Group invited a singer and songwriter, Mr Hanjin Tan, to speak at the "Balances and Wisdom" Seminar on September 10. About 200 Force members, including Assistant Commissioner (Personnel) Siu Chak-yee and Chief Superintendent of Personnel Services and Staff Relations Branch Lau Fung-ha, attended the seminar.
Hanjin shared his story of pursuing a musical career. He said he identified his interest and strengths in music, and hoped to promote his music to a larger audience. However, his career path was not smooth and he needed to put in extra effort to achieve his goals. When music became a job, his interest in music slowly diminished and he faced obstacles along the way. But he believed that he could realise his dreams as long as he was committed to his goals. He jested that perhaps his talent lied not in music, but in perseverance.
Recently, Hanjin has shown commitment to slimming. He said the keys to losing weight were "set a goal, find a method, commit and persevere". He recalled his doctor telling him during a medical check-up last year that his body fat percentage was excessively high. At that time, he also found that his health was starting to deteriorate. So he made up his mind to lose weight, and hired a personal trainer to draw up a training programme for him. Hanjin admitted that adjusting to the programme was hard initially and the fitness process was exhausting. Nevertheless, when he devoted himself to training, he realised that "the pain feels good". He has adapted to training every day and has even come to enjoy it.
Hanjin has stayed committed to his goals, both in music and fitness.
