The Force has initiated a series of promotional activities for its commemorative book, entitled "Hong Kong Police Force 175th Anniversary - From Strength to Strength Serving with Pride and Care", to increase public understanding of police work.
Director of the Police College Dr Cheung Ching met with the media on April 29 to announce the launch of the commemorative book. She introduced the book as a holistic guide vividly documenting the diversified nature of police work. To cater for the needs of different readers, a mobile application has been developed for the book to enable readers to view videos, photo galleries and three-dimensional models via augmented reality (AR) technology. Readers can also explore the history and development of the Force through a virtual reality (VR) game.
The Police Public Relations Branch and the Police College jointly held the launching ceremony of the 175th Anniversary Commemorative Book, Stamps and Television Movie at the Police Headquarters on April 30. An overwhelming number of media representatives and guests attended the event. Commissioner Lo Wai-chung signed a copy of the commemorative book to mark its official launch.
Meanwhile, representatives of the Police College presented the features of the book to Commissioner Rank Officers, representatives of staff associations, Training and Staff Relations Officers (TSROs) and Police Community Relations Officers at their meetings. The College representatives also attended a radio interview and a New Book Introductory Session to highlight the content and features of the book.
The attendees of the above activities found the book interesting and rich in content. In particular, they were impressed by the innovative technologies of AR effects and the VR game. They said the book marks a breakthrough in printed materials by combining the best aspects of digital and print publishing. This helps enrich reading experience.
The book is on sale at major bookstores from May 1. Readers may view an electronic version of the book via the following link (https://www.police.gov.hk/175a/en/ebook_intro.html).
