Wong Tai Sin District (WTSDIST) conducted a suicide awareness workshop under "Project WiseAgers" at Wong Tai Sin Police Station on June 4 in conjunction with the Hong Kong Jockey Club Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention, The University of Hong Kong.

Through studies of elderly suicide cases, the workshop strengthened the skills of frontline officers in communicating with the elderly, thereby enhancing their capability in providing support services to senior citizens.

"Project WiseAgers" was launched in May 2018. It aims to enhance the safety of the elderly, raise their awareness of protecting their personal belongings, and spread crime prevention messages with the aid of innovative technology and integration of stakeholders' resources.

The project equips frontline officers with the knowledge and skills to handle elderly cases. It also adopts a multi-agency collaboration approach to encourage local residents, especially the youth, to show care and support for the elderly in a bid to foster inter-generational harmony.
