Deputy District Commander of Tai Po District (TPDIST) Yuen Chi-kin visited a group of Muslims who were observing Ramadan at the Fanling Mosque on May 31 to promote the understanding between the Police and the non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) community.

According to Muslim faith, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar is called Ramadan, during which Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset. On the evening of May 31, more than 50 Muslims of different ethnic groups gathered at the mosque to share food together. A cleric of the mosque introduced the rituals and culture of Islam to Mr Yuen and other officers from TPDIST. The cleric thanked the officers for their concern to the NEC community as well as their efforts in maintaining close communication with them and building a harmonious community.

Meanwhile, Mr Yuen presented a copy of Hong Kong Police Force 175th Anniversary Commemorative Book and Special Stamps to the mosque to introduce the work of the Police and to share the joy of the anniversary with the group.

Mr Naseer Ahmed, the most Senior Elder of the mosque, is a retired Station Sergeant. He had been attached to a Patrol Sub-Unit of Sheung Shui Division with Mr Yuen when the latter just graduated from the Police Training School. The visit was a good time for reunion and they reminisced about the good old days.
