A 33-member delegation of Central District Junior Police Call (CDIST JPC) visited Melbourne and Sydney in Australia from August 19 to 26 to enhance JPC members' understanding of police work in Australia and to widen their international horizons.
The delegation was led by Chairman of CDIST JPC Honorary President Council Mr Yip Chun-nam. Other delegates included JPC Honorary Presidents, Senior Inspector Leung Yi-ling, staff members of CDIST Police Community Relations Office and JPC members. The JPC members were assigned to take up different positions in the delegation with the aim of building their leadership skills, team spirit and problem-solving ability.
During the stay in Melbourne, the delegates called on the Mounted Branch, Dog Squad and Air Wing of the Victoria Police to learn about their equipment and facilities. The delegates toured a police control room and a police helicopter, and watched demonstrations by police dogs and horses.
Meanwhile, the delegates visited the city of Ballarat to learn about the life of Chinese workers during the gold rush days more than a century ago. They also made a trip to the Phillip Island to watch penguins returning ashore after fishing. This enabled them to better understand the importance of nature conservation.
Furthermore, the delegates toured various scenic spots in Sydney, including the SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium, Fish Market, Opera House and St Mary's Cathedral, to gain a better understanding of local culture.
The trip enabled the JPC members to learn more about the work of Australian police officers and enhance their fight crime knowledge. They also took the opportunity to promote the strategies and achievement of the Hong Kong Police in maintaining law and order, and demonstrate their vitality, leadership skills and a strong desire to learn.
