Passing-out parades are very special occasions, and this was particularly true for six mentees of the New Territories South (NTS) Mentee Training Programme who passed out from the Police College as Probationary Inspectors (PIs) on September 18. The mentees praised the programme for helping them prepare for the Extended Interview (EI) and the Final Interview Board (FIB), saying that the programme’s workshops were highly practical and greatly improved their confidence in tackling the EI leadership exercise and FIB scenario questions.
To King-ho, a direct entry inspector, encouraged candidates of EI to learn more about the Force, such as its development and policies. Kwok Pui-hang, a Force entry inspector who had attempted FIB for a number of times, passed out from the Police College in July. He recommended candidates to improve their English proficiency by watching English videos related to their hobbies.
Inspector Chan Ching was an auxiliary officer before joining the Force. While she was on duty as an auxiliary officer, she would think ahead about her actions at a crime scene and then observed how regular police officers would handle the case at the scene. Afterwards, she would analyse what she had neglected in her plan and looked for ways of improvement in future. She also advised potential inspectors to find buddies who share the same goal to help motivate one another in the process.
NTS Region has conducted the workshops since March 2020 and 50 mentees have successfully passed their EI and FIB, whilst 10 mentees have passed out from the PI training.
To encourage more Formations to run their own mentee workshops, Deputy District Commander of Lantau District and Training and Staff Relations Officer (TSRO) of NTS intend to run train-the-trainer workshops to share best practices for organising similar workshops. Anyone interested in attending a train-the-trainer workshop please contact TSRO NTS.
