Officers of EU KE try their best at the tug of war

MORE than 400 police officers participated in the eight games (table tennis, tenpin bowling, tug of war, badminton, tennis, squash, 7-a-side football and fun sports promotion relay), of the Kowloon East Region Sports Day last month.

Officers from six formations competed for the Minor Unit Trophy, which went to Airport District. Meanwhile, the Major Unit Trophy went to Sau Mau Ping District.

The fun sports promotion relay was held as the last item of the day allowing participants to relax after the keen competition. Officers of different ranks divided into nine groups played in four games, namely: knotted pairs, walking on clouds, the kangaroo jump and back to back, heart to heart.

Police win Hong Kong Lawn Bowls Championship

THE Police "A" Team has won the First Division of the Hong Kong Lawn Bowls Association Summer League - the pinnacle of club bowls in Hong Kong.

The last time Police won the title was way back in 1912, so this big win was long overdue.

The feat was achieved through hard work and dedication of "A" Team members - as well as the rest of the club players and officials.

Police clinched the title on 25 October with a resounding victory in its last game (there are 18 games per season) away at Victoria Park.

By winning the First Division, Police have broken the stranglehold of a few local clubs on the title, which can only bode well for competition in the seasons to come.

It is also worthy to note that the "A" Team consists largely of JPOs who only began playing within the last ten years - with some team members playing far less.

Said club chairman Ian Marriott: "I am very proud of what has been achieved this year and the kudos can be shared by all club members. I also hope that this success will act as a spur to Force members to take up the game."
